Subwoofer install

I'm looking at installing a subwoofer in the boot to provide a bit of thump to the weedy factory fitted business stereo. I don't have NAV or DSP either so don't think I have an amp in the boot.
Has anyone done this and if so what did you use, bass box, tube etc? What power of amp ?
Also where did you tap the line input from? - speakers in the back doors?
What about 12v power?

I'd rather not loose the boot space to a dedicated sub box so I'm going to be brave and build an MDF enclosure with 10" sub to go in the side compartment under the fuse panel.

One question that I can't find an answer for is where to take the feed from for the sub amp. I think the European spec cars with just the standard business stereo (No NAV/DSP) DON'T have an amp in the boot. I certainly couldn't find mine anywhere around the spare tyre or under the CD changer.
All I could find was a harness with a blue connector under the CD changer but I don't know what its for.

Don`t look for the amp in the trunk as here in Europe we don´t have that (unless you purchased the DSP model). If you plan to add a sub you need to take the signal from the radio speakers. You need an amp with "high level" imputs or a signal converter (from high to low).
I'm planning to add an amplified sub under the driver's seat.

That sucks, why do us Europeans get robbed of a half decent sound system (seperate amp and extra speakers next to the door mirrors).
I'll see if I can find where the rear speaker cables are routed so I can splice into a pair.

Don`t know how much bass you want, but if you want as much as me: only to fill the bass lack of the original stereo, these will fit you. They are quite easy to install as you can take the signal from the unit in the dashboard.

All of these look like interesting solutions...thanks for sharing the info! I wonder how they sound compared to the OEM sub. Some of them look like they are small enough to be fitted into the OEM sub location. Too bad that the two that I wanted to try (Blaupunkt and Alpine) are available only in Europe
