Hi there, I am so sorry if I am repeating other topics, but here goes:
I have a 57 plate (2007) X5 3.0d SE and am starting to experience issues with the entertainment unit.
On inserting the key fob, the screen and radio seem to be taking a long time to start working, no doubt this will be a capacitor in the power supply, which on it's own wouldn't take me long to repair (I used to repair TV's etc for a living), but the fact that it is playing up has given me an excuse to upgrade the system to something more up-to-date.
My X5 has the CD multi-disc in the glove box, an Aux jack socket in the centre console, a DVD player where the Nav Disc is placed along with another CD player. So from what I can work out from reading other posts, it is a CCC system.
I have contacted someone who was advertising a unit, asking about the Sat Nav part of the system that they were selling and asked if it would cover Eastern Europe as we travel to Ukraine during most summers. They advised that their unit doesn't have any maps included as it relies upon a mobile phone app to generate their Sat Nav system.
Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a problem, but since Brexit and the changes with regard to UK mobile phones no longer having free roaming, I am wondering about costs, does an app such as Waze require a mobile to have internet access? I am asking because I have not been able to find anything out. The vendor of the system that I had been looking at became vague and avoided answering the question.
What have other people installed? Do you have a link to the website of a trusted supplier? With a replacement system, will the multi-play CD etc still work?
I have considered updating the X5 to a newer model, but I keep coming up with the same answer..... Why? I have owned the car for just over 3 years, it has given me 60k miles of relatively trouble free motoring (other than the clacking noise that seems to have been cured), so it seems daft to upgrade to a new model and inherit someone else's unsolved problems when my motor is purring, all be it that it has now got 122k miles on the clock....... BUT........ driving with no tunes etc, nope, not happening, I need something to drown out the whining sound from the passenger seat

...... I need to either repair the faulty unit, replace it with the same, or upgrade to a touch screen all singing and dancing new unit........ please can someone recommend from their experiences.
Thanking you, in advance
Tony
