I let my dealer install the OEM AUX input . ipod your bmw solution wont work and the icelink is too much. Dealer through it in at no charge, so i cant complain. He even had it installed in the ash tray!

Question, will the AUX plug directly into my ipod ? or so i need some kinf of adapter ?

you need a 3.5 mm stereo cord (try Radio Shack or something) to connect between the aux input and the iPod headphone jack.

Connecting through the headphone jack will require you to adjust the iPod volume and the stereo volume to find the desired sound. Further, this board is where I discovered that you can adjust the gain on the Aux input using the radio preset buttons on the head unit.

If you use an aftermarket charger like the Belkin cable, you can connect your stereo cable between the Belkin cable and the Aux input. That way you use the iPod's dock connection to send the signal to the Aux input and not the headphone jack. I think you would get better sound that way (and you will disable the volume adjustment on the iPod). If nothing else this will save your ears when you put the headphones back in for personal use (since the volume will probably be very high if you used the headphone jack to connect to the Aux input)

So a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord will be fine? Does brand matter?

If I decide to get the Belkin unit, it says "The Auto Kit also provides an adjustable amplifier and 3.5mm audio-out jack that lets you play your iPod through your car stereo or other audio equipment when using a Belkin TuneCast Mobile FM Transmitter or Cassette Adapter."

would it still work on with AUX?

whats the difference between these two :

Yes, a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cord will be fine. As long as it's a stereo cord (don't get mono), I don't think brand matters. I run a radio shack brand cable myself. It couldn't have been more than $5.

I'm not trying to tell you to go Belkin, but I'm happy with it. The auto kit ($39.99) has a 3.5 mm output jack. Your Aux cable is ends with a 3.5 mm input. You'll be fine. Again, this is the way I go, others may run their stereo cable from the headphone jack (output) to the Aux input. If, like me, you want to charge/power your iPod in the car while playing it, I think the Belkin cable makes a lot of sense.

Thanks Smiley.

I think im gonna get the 3.5 to 3.5 for now. I could always use it with the belkin unit if i decide to make the purchase.
