Headrest Mobile DVD install...

Hope this is the right area to post this topic (didn't see any other areas for this ). I just leased an 06 X5 3.0i for my wife and we need to install a rear DVD entertainment center for the kids. We're looking at a headrest monitor that can be removed when we turn in our SAV at the end of the lease term. Does anyone have any ideas on where to mount the DVD player w/o cutting anything in the cabin area??? We would like to have the DVD player in the cabin for the easy of changing discs when necessary. If anyone has an ideal install option for this I would appreciate any ideas...Pictures would also be very helpful.

Thanks all!!!

BMW has an OEM system that replaces your headrests with headrests that have screens installed. The system also includes a DVD player that goes in the center console, wireless headphones, and all the necessary wiring. It's quite expensive though, about $2600 plus installation.

There are aftermarket systems that are similar to the OEM system in that they also replace the headrests. They are almost certainly cheaper than the OEM system, but you'd need to look at their functionality and reliability and you may not get an exact color match to your factory headrests.

The OEM system can't be installed if you have comfort seats (according to BMW). I don't know about the aftermarket systems.

The beauty of these systems is you can just pull out the video headrests and put the factory headrests back in when you sell the car (or return it off lease).

I asked the local dealer about the OEM BMW Headrest entertainment center and they wanted $3500 total (including installation)...OUCH!!! I did find the Vizualogic A-1000 headrest system and really liked the integrated DVD player (into the screen) and was hoping to see if any other forum member that might have already have it installed so I can see how well it looks/works (and perhaps get some installation pointers). Thanks to both of you for your response!

They have a sand and a black one on eBay for under $1000. The dual DVD headrests is $900 and the sand with a single Master and Slave unit is $675.

Yeah, but he said he had to return the vehicle at lease end so cutting into the headrests wouldn't be a good option. Unless he could find a trade.

You can always buy portable DVD monitors that can be removed from one vehicle and placed into another (the monitors strap to the back of the headrest and can be easily removed). For example:

I noticed that, but since mogsyman's install is so cool .it deserved another mention and this is after all a relevant thread on the subject.
