X5 OEM Subwoofer

Guys, I'm new to this forum. I have the 2004 X5 3.0d facelifted with the standard sound system. I don't have the factory installed subwoofer and I would like to get it as an add on? Is this possible? because the dealer in Philippines don't carry high end X5's so they don't know about the subwoofer for the X5.

I suggest you just get an aftermarket AMP and SUB.

I have the DSP system ....

The sub is weak. The DSP doesn't sound all that great. I always want more bass but I can never get it no matter what I do. It sounds good on low volume but when you turn the volume up it struggles to keep up with the system.

My point? like the guy above me said.. aftermarket.

DSP is over-rated. However it is better than stock. Not much better to people that don't know much about Sound Quality. Best bet is to go after market. MB Quart makes great acustic speakers and JL Audio is the best in Amps/Subs.

The DSP sub is two 6.5 woofers in a sealed box, firing into a 3mm thick ABS plastic panel with no grille. The crossover is 80 Hz and down, and the resonant frequency of the 6.5 woofers is 80 Hz.

Basically, it's pathetic.

And MB Quart does NOT make great acoustic speakers, and JL Audio is most emphatically NOT the best in amps or subs. Competent. Not "the best".

Actually, I was thinking about getting an aftermarket sub and amp but I want to keep the car original as much as possible. If I bring it to some place for sound set up, I'm afraid I might get lots of squeeks because the panels are not put back properly.

I've already experienced it in my other car. i brought it to one of the top sound system installers in the country. But after getting the car back, I hear squeeks at some panel. Don't want to have that in my X5

A friend of mine has the 4.6is with the DSP and nav screen. The sound to me is satisfactory. Do you know if it is possible to add the OEM subwoofer to my non DSP unit?

Nope. Would require a full DSP upgrade. Terrible waste of effort for the return on investment.

FYI...JL Audio is currently working on a custom sub enclosure project that will fit in the OEM location (same location as the DSP sub would go) - See a few threads down in this section. So, all you need to do is add an amp to power that sub.

Anytime you add a sub, it is almost certain that you'll discovered new sqeaks and rattles unless you have done your homework ahead of time and dampen out everything that you can think of...this can get expensive and time consuming. Afterall, you are installing a subwoofer that is suppose to VIBRATE the heck out of everything.
