Sub-woofer recommendations? BSW or ...?

It looks like you guys know what your talking about here. I have a 2005 X5 4.8 w navi and DSP and before I bought it someone had put aftermarket speakers,crossovers.etc into it. When I bought it they removed all that stuff and put crappy speakers back in and didnt even hook up some speakers. I am in the dilemma of either bringing it back to stock or upgrading. What do you suggest?? I need to keep the cost down also. Can I install XM and an Ipod adapter? Can I install a dvd player/tv to the navi screen?

It appears there are only minor differences between U.S. and non-U.S. market BMW's with the same type of audio system (i.e. standard 10 speaker or Premium). The only vehicles that seem to have significant differences are those with the base audio system (6 speaker system), which we do not have here in the U.S.

Regardless, this product WILL work in your vehicle since all it needs to operate is an appropriate audio signal, turn-on signal, and power connections. These are all certainly available on your vehicle, though they may not correspond to the same wire colors we have in the U.S. depending on your specific vehicle options.

Since you'll have to spend a decent amount of money either way to bring the car to stock or upgrade, I would definitely recommend that you go the upgrade route.

My suggestion:

New, aftermarket 4 channel amp
New front components (leave rears out)
Small subwoofer in trunk

The whole system, including wiring and everything, would run around $1000 depending on the specific components you choose and will sound FAR, FAR better than the original configuration. Give me a call or send me an e-mail and we can figure out exactly what the right configuration for you will be.

XM would mean you're using an external device, but you can have fully integrated Sirius satellite radio:

If you are looking for your nav screen to act as a video unit / DVD player, you may want to consider a video integration package from Tom @ EAS:

Yes, many of our products are compatible with your vehicle, even this configuration. However, because we do not have access to these cars, installation on your part may require ingenuity and a support call or two to us here at BSW.

I'm using a BASSLINK setup with the MB quarts (from BSW w/ mids) and its pretty good. I'm sure BSW or JL Audio's Sub rigs are better, but the BASSLINK setup was easy and costs a lot less ($200). Everybody who rides in my X5 comments on the sound system.

Come on... it's an X5. Why use a $200 subwoofer that doesn't sound that good and looks like a bomb on 24?

Its a temperary solution (better system under construction!) Besides, the basslink does sound sound for what its is. (Size: 14 x 12 x 8) Nobody cares about the fashion show in my cargo area!
