5 Channel Amp Choice: Any Suggestions?

So, I've decided to do a AVIC-Z1 w/ MB's all around. Im adding some additional stuff (NavTraffic, iPod iLink, mac mini?, etc...) and will eventually want to add the JL pre-fab sub (when its complete). I've been flippping between 2 amps or 1, and I've made the decision to go with 1-5 channel for space and design.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Been thinking JL 5 channel or Phoenix Gold 5 Channel or Kenwood 5 Channel, etc.

Not convinced that you're gonna make MBs sound good, but:

1) The JL amp has grainy and harsh highs and exacerbates the MB sound.

2) The PG amps are no longer what they were and I wouldn't recommend them for anything.

3) The kenwoods are meh.

Many 5-channel amps are long enough to challenge where they will go in the X5. If it's between the tray and the removable load floor, you might not be able to fit some 5-channels.

That said, I'd consider the DLS CA51 and RA50, the Audison Srx 5, and the Arc Audio 5150 XXK.

Zapco doesn't have a 5, but they have a 4 and a mono.

No custom installer in your area to do a fiberglass sub box?

Why MBs? The X has such a distance between the tweeter and the midwoofer, you'd do better with a tweeter that played lower into the upper mid, wouldn't you? (Alpine X type, DLS, Morel, Dyne, Hertz, etc).

Also, Hertz makes a sweet three-way set that will fit the X type. Check hertzaudiovideo.com, Hi-Energy, Comp Sets.

Where is the amp to go? Will one amp really make that kind of diff?

I have 2 Diamond Amps running all Hertz High Energy speakers including a 10" sub and the sound even with the relatively smallish Hertz sub is mind blowing in the X.

Check out Audisons new 6 channel it can be bridged down to a 5 and has some excellent specs. I agrre with el_duderino you should check out Alpine's X-types for there adjustability for location of speakers. I am about to become a dealer of Hertz and from what I have They are incredable

Taking your ideas into consideration, would you suggest better performance from the Alpine Type-X SPX-177R in the front and rear?

As far as amps go, Im just really looking to get the best sound, and not have to use up a lot of space in reagrds to multiple amps. I was thinking that a mid/large size 5 channel would allow for more flexibility (in regards to mounting location) than 2 mid/large size amps... Though, I am now considering a 4 channel Zapco, and then getting a 2/1 channel later...

I've looked at the specs and semi-read up on them. Where can I order them from in the US? Round-a-bout price for a component set?

The Alpine 177X are better sounding than the Quarts.

There are speakers that sound better for the money - DLS comes to mind, Hertz too.

Or consider getting something killer for the front, like Dynes, and jettisoning the rears

There's got to be someone in Houston that can hide a 10" sub for you.
