apw,

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but the serial number of the unit is 56483060. (I got this by turning on the radio and holding the select button) How do I find out if this is the version that will read ID3 tags?

I can't find the radio service menu, is this the same as the "hidden" menu that comes up when you hold the menu button for 8-10 seconds. There doesn't seem to be a radio location setting.

Thanks the advice

Oscar.

No ... you need the actual part number of the radio. The only way to find that is to look at the BM radio physically.

Heres some info on the USA BM53 Radio, and access to the service menu in the radio. You may find similar settings in the BM54, but as I dont have that radio, I'm just speculating ...

apw,

Thanks for the suggestions. I've checked out the link on radio service mode.

To find the part number do I have to take the unit out or is it visible from somewhere else?

Oscar

Here is the information I put together on the ID3 text.

http://www.bimmernav.com/bmw_mp3_cd_changer.html

1) make sure the ID3s are formated correctly
2) make sure that you enable Audiotext

The radios I know work are

65.12.6.988.275
P/N 65 12 6 976 961
65 12 6 976 962

The Audiotext option only shows up if you have the correct CDC right? If you have a pre-dec 05 or whatever the cut off is you do not get mp3 playback or see the auditotext option right?

Correct, even if you have the new radio, you only get the AudioText option with the new CDC - i.e. you need both new CDC and new radio.

Without the new radio you get playback perfectly, but no ID3 text displayed

Thanks for all your replies. I can play MP3 discs from the CDC and get the autiotext option. I just don't get the display to show the tracks etc on the screen. Not the end of the world but nice to have.

BTW great forum, thanks.

Hmm ... how did you get on with the service menu on the radio. Was there a "Area" setting. Did you try changing that. Make a note of the setting before you change it ... just incase you need to change it back :-) I can't believe that will effect anything ... but you never know. Failing that, did you ever post the BM54 Part #. I know RichardP has one of the new (from 9.2005) BM54 Radios ....

Cheers, Adrian
