Should I choose dension ipod kit?

Should I choose dension ipod kit?

I'm on the verge of having the dension ipod installed in my X5 into glovebox, I understand for max amt of music this is the best way, main stealer quoted me £400! for the bmw system but i gather the dension is the best.

I understand the dension is approx £115 http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/ for the 16:9 screen system and installation is £38 http://www.incar-installer.com/ totalling £153 into glovebox + ipod (refurb 30gb £129)

My local ice shop said £200 supply and fit + my ipod

are all the dension kits for x5 16:9 nav the same.?

Should i pay the extra £50 and use my local shop in case of problems?

I dont fancy trying to tamper with the x5 dashboard myself

any thoughts?

The Dension kits have been replaced with the DICE systems here in states. The ice>Link has a nasty bug on the NAV configurations in which the text size moves from a large to small font when text is displaying.

A complete description of the DICE kit can be seen at this link:

We have quite a few european customers we deal with personally here on the forum. Feel free to respond with any questions.

Yes, make sure to get the newer 'dice' system. Almost no bugs that I have come across. Dont get any other cause u wont get your title tags on your MID or NAV. Yes, it works with 16:9 screens.

Dension make both the Ice-link and the DICE. But go the DICE option I have had nothing but problem with my Ice had the PCB replaced twice still no better so going with the DICE.

Get the DICE from EAS or BSW if you import to UK you will pay 3.5% on the total cost including shipping then 17.5% VAT on that total.

The kit can be installed by you its just plug and play from the CD changer connectors not the tuner in the boot as the UK Ice-link is. Then if you want it in the glovebox run the leads down yourself or get someone to do it for you but there are plenty of threads here showing how to do it.

Dension in the states is much different than Dension overseas, we no longer import the ice>Link does to problems such as this. When the ice>Link works, it's awesome - the DICE is just a much more stable system.

The text display bug the ice>Link has either has been ignored by Dension (overseas) techs or simply not fixed yet - a big reason the DICE is a clear winner. The major benefit on the DICE is allowing the ipod to remain in a fully unlocked state - so any iPod-specific feature can be utilized, without the need of learning a new set of commands to work the device in the vehicle.

The DICE kits allow the connection to be made at the boot, so all features like Bluetooth and Navigation voice prompts can be retained. The ice>Link uses a R40 Quadlock harness that must be rewired if these options are present.

Feel free to reply with any questions you have on the DICE, we're more than happy to assist.

TomG is the guy at EAS speak to him.

And BSW is Bavarian Sound Works they sponsor this forum.

You plug it in the two connectors that sit in the back of the CD changer in the boot yes it will work with your 16:9, thats what I have.
