OK, what are the lights at the speaker plugs??

I am in the process of replacing my front speakers. Ran out of daylight, so I will continue tomorrow. Left the inside door panels off and ran to Advance Auto for some bulbs for the high beams when I put my Angel Eyes in tomorrow. There is a bulb next to the midrange speaker plug that lights up when the hedlights are on. What the heck is this light for?? It is not something that can be seen when everything is in place. This bulb is present on both the driver's side and the passenger side.

I'm assuming this is in the door? If it's an LED, then they're supposed to plug into the interior door if you have that feature.

Interior Door?? What the heck is the "interior" door??

This is a small amber light that is connected to the wiring harness for the door speaker (woofer).

I believe the reference is to the ambient lighting found in the door handles of some models. It depends on the year of your X5 if you have this option. But there is an easier way to determine what it is, remember

Oh well, that ain't happenin' - got the new window motor installed and new MBQuarts in the front and slapped everything back together (finally). Not worth taking it back apart to take pics of the lights - I was just curious why there were lights connected to the wiring harness that cannot be seen.

These lights are plugged into the back of the door handles on the inside of the car. You probably snapped them off the back of the interior handle housing when you pulled off the door panel.

These lights were securely fastened to the wiring going to the door speaker. There was not enough slack for them to reach the door handle. Was lighted interior door handles an option in 2001 in the US??
