I Tune's bit rate 128 :rolleyes:

I downloaded some music from I tunes last night and the bit rate is only 128 I have my settings set a 320 for CD's importing is there any way of getting this higher with I tunes downloads or is the just the way it is ?

Hmmmm 128 bit rate in my terms is "lower than CD quality" but I think it is supposedly "CD Quality".

I disagree as well. I know I can personally tell a difference between 128 and 256. After 384, personally I cannot tell a difference. I'm not even sure if I can notice a difference between 256 and 384, but they definitely sound better than 128 rips.

No, you can not change the iTunes bit rate. The lower rate is part of Apple's content marketing strategy that still leads people to purchase CDs if the really like an iTunes track. (On the plus side, Apple does claim that their 128-bit compression rate is much better quality than a comperable 128-bit MP3 rip.)

This is Apple's default for iTunes music. For CDs, try to use a minimum of 192kbps or preferrably higher if space allows it.

Try a lossless format like .flac..you'll def notice the difference

Apple uses a MPEG standard called AAC or MPEG4-Layer 3, which is an (big) evolution of MP3, so yes, a MP4 at 128kb is way better than a MP3 at the same rate.

Out of curiosity, your mobile device most certainly also supports AAC. Please note the the sound format is standard, but the DRM encoding is not, thus an .m4a (un-DRM-ed) work on a mobile, but the DRM'ed .m4p does not)
