There are a fair number of components that are closer to 6", Polk Audio, Diamond Audio, the Infinitys, certain JL's, etc.. Question is...are you willing to drop $200 just to use the midbass speakers? Not to mention, even at 2 ohms, the stock amp lacks the power to get the full potential from aftermarket speakers.

I replaced my door speakers with Diamond Audio D3 comps. The 6.5" are small enough to fit. It sounds noticeably better, but I am left wondering how much better it would sound with some proper amp power.

I've looked at the D3's. Any other models from the brands you mentioned?

The Polk Audio db6500's, most infinitys, most alpines, JL TR and VR. Search the manufacturers sites. I can tell you this; anything with a diameter above 162 mm will not fit in the stock baffle.
