adding custom sub and amp

I'm building a custom sub with the same speaker that is in the JL audio Stealthbox. (sorry BSW) The amp I chose is a JL audio a 1200 mono amp.

JL recomends configuring the amp without any filtering and that just seems strange to me

Does the BSW amp and sub run full range?

My 1st impulse is to set the amp to a specific Hz, and then add caps to the mid base speakers to protect them from the damaging low Hz......

I do plan on upgrading my speakers to the BSW upgrade set soon.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not sure the question is clear. How would a mono amp damage your midbass speakers?

if you add caps to the mid base speakers you can increase the bass using the bass controls on the head unit and it won't send too much bass to the mid bass speakers. I'm not talking about adding another amp to the factory speakers. I just want to optimize......

if you add a sub to the factory setup, and look at the factory config, the tweeters are filtered to only supply specific high notes, and the mids are configed to produce certian ranges of sounds, and by adding capacitor to the largest factory speakers you effectively turn them in to mid-bass speakers and let the sub do the heavy bass..... when you filter out the really low end on the mid-bass speakers you can utilize the power in the factory amp to be used more efficiently producing only the sounds the speakers can handle.

Adding a subwoofer will have no effect on what frequency's the rest of the interior speakers will play. However, it will allow you to turn down the bass from your head unit, creating a much cleaner, liveable sound.

As for the subwoofer, yes, you are going to need to use the LP crossover function of that amp for your subwoofer. A subwoofer cannot play full range music.

If you reread my above post that is what I was saying, except using a cap to filter out the base below a certain freq so that I can manipulate the base without harming or sending too much of a bass signal to the factory mid bass speakers.

I do plan on buying your upgrade speaker set. What Hz do you recommend setting the LP to with your upgraded speakers?

Ahh, I'm sorry I must have mis-read your post.

I usually recommend 80-100 Hz for the LP xover. It all depends on how it sounds in your vehicle. I've enver actually heard the xh108 without our Stage 1, so I cannot comment exactly where it should be with factory speakers, but 80-100 Hz would be a normal starting point.

And theoretically, yes, you could most definitely add a capacitor to your misbass speakers. However, the natural roll off helps them blend nicely with a subwoofer. If you are playing them at a high enough volume to need to worry about distortion from the bass in the music, I think you should be looking int an amplifier upgrade. Cap'ing the midbass speakers is really only a patch without power from an aftermarket amplifier, as the factory DSP amplifier is not enough power to over-excurt or distort the speakers with an un-clipped or un-distorted musical signal.

I got it installed, tuned and it sounds much better.... I'm thinking that I will need to upgrade to the Stage 1 BSW speakers.....

BTW, making the sub enclosure cost about $45 for materials... $300 for sub and amp and she is up and going.

What frequency do you set your LP at? I have mine around 75 Hz and somehow I still can tell the bass is coming from the rear.
