How to activate free Sirius subscription?

For getting the "free" one year subscription out of the Sirius tuner, I heard I have to take it in to a dealership to activate. Is there any other way to get around this, while still getting the one free year?
Thanks
KM

What is the part number of your receiver? Only the 3rd Generation receivers qualify for the 1 year of programming.

We can help without the dealer visit.

That would be great if you guys could help me out.
Thanks

That's the correct part number - Sirius will activate your 1 year sub with your Sirius ID number on the module when given.

Awesome.
So just to clarify, I can call Sirius myself and give them the SID #?
Hope so. I also hope it is easy to add to an existing account.
Thanks again for the info.

Correct - if you are already an existing Sirius user, they should simply add the additional months to your subscription.

Any idea what is the latest generation version (and p/n) of the Sirius receiver and also the antenna? I've been having issues with mine and I think it might be outdated and perhaps an upgrade to the newest one might solve my problems?

Look at my earlier post.

But I went with the Terk SIR-3 antenna so I could hide it in the top spoiler. I got it on Amazon.com, but you will need some connectors if you choose to go this route.

We offer the SIR MINIs which are about half the size of the BMW antenna:

Sirius Satellite Radio Roof Mount Antenna

These are in stock if needed.

Thanks for the great info. I'll check out my p/n to see how old my receiver is. As far as the antennas are concerned (for Tom G.) the Terk antenna is definitely smaller than the older BMW antenna, but is it smaller than the latest BMW antenna? Also on your website it says to mount the antenna to the roof which is magnetic and my understanding is that the large metal roof essentially boosts the signal. However, mounting in the spoiler it would not have have this large roof area so wouldn't the signal be much worse?
