Try unplugging the connector that goes into the amp (located underneath the navigation DVD and the CD changer, behind the door on the driver's side in the cargo area) and reconnecting it a few minutes later. There should be only one connector with many wires coming out of it. It replugs easily.

I have pulled the power supply fuses 72 and 73 in the fuse box at the right side of the boot. Leave them out to perform a reset and see what happens. I will monitor my audio for a while and hopefully this will work.

This is a suggested fix on a few forums.

To be clear the module in the dome shape housing is the radio module under the spare wheel???

I have tried removing and refitting fuses 72/73 for approx 30 mins and also ensuring there is no moisture in the floor area but still getting intermittent sound from stereo/sat nav etc. All functions working on the screen but sound comes and goes ramdomly. Can anyone give some ideas as what else to check please!!!

Another solution is to replace the unit with the later model radio. Some radios do die.

Hi

I am having the same problem eg no sound from my radio, I have tried all suggestings about disconnecting fuses 72 & 73 and disconnecting power to amp etc. My BMW dealer said the radio is useless. What are my options i.e. can I get it fixed?

Paul

I Guess you could get somebody to test and check for faults, but i would suggest if you need a replacement module then ebay may be the best place to go. I have also looked on e bay there are a few around but still seem quite pricey and of course you have to trust that the seller is letting you buy a good fully working product . Do you have the problem intermittently like me or is your sound dead all the time.

I still have a few checks to do when i get the time with connections to the radio module etc but as my sound is currently ok i am not rushing. If i do find anything i will post it here!!!

Thanks for reply, and yes sound is dead all the time. Can you just confirm for me where the Amp/Tuner actually is. I removed the spare wheel and the dome shaped unit and looked inside but there wasn't any unit in there. I saw some other posting to suggest the amp/tuner is under the battery where is it on your vechicle (mine is 2003) I also checked under the CD changer in cargo area and there is a unit called ULF module and some reference to Bluetooth so that cannot be what I am looking for. Do you think I should remove battery?

There is nothing beneath my battery on my 2001 model. I was told the radio module was in the unit under the spare wheel but have also been told that it is under the dvd nav unit in the left side of the boot. I have not yet clarified that one i'm afraid. When i find out i will let you know as i have to check these too. Good luck.

Hi, I got enthuastic this morning and decided to find the Amp. It is indeed under the spare wheel.
Remove the dome under spare wheel and the bracketry under the dome. This exposes the battery. Remove the battery and the plastic cover underneath. The Amp is located underneath. The plastic cover has two compartments the battery is located in one and the Amp (which cannot be seen until plastic cover removed) is located in the other. It is near the very back of the end of the well area that holds the battery.

I tried all the disconnections of cables and even opned the Amp all looked Ok but nothing works, i just need to buy a head unit and/or amp.

Regards
Paul

Hi all,

I have similar but in the same time a bit different problem - my front driver speaker sound has gone. Now after night when I turn it on, it works perfect about 10-20 seconds, then dissapears again. And each time it is like that. when there is sound in begining - you can do whatewer you want - change volume, make volume max, make volume min - everything works perfect, but after ~10-20 seconds sound dissapears.
Could someon tell me what could be the problem?
I believe there could help some "RESET" button for that audio/navigation system, but how can I do that?
I tried to disconect "+" cable from baterry for 5 minutes - no results, only all time and date cleared

thank you in advance
