It is not a direct replacement from your original stereo, but it is a cool project. First a couple questions...

Do you have navigation or the standard in-dash radio?
Do you know if you have the standard stereo system (no amp) or the middle "Hi Fi" system (small amp)?

Here is a post about upgrading from the stock HiFi system to DSP.

Here is the high level...

First, I recommend that you get the BMW wiring diagram software (WDS). That will help answer a ton of questions.

Second, you will need to get the DSP amp plugs. There are three plugs for the unit that you can get from a BMW dealer, plus you will want to get some of the pins that fit in the connectors. It might be easier to get plugs from a junk yard that have a few inches of wiring still attached.

Third, you will need to get the mounting bracket for the DSP amp.

Next, you will want to get some kind of subwoofer box. You could either get the DSP subwoofer box, or an aftermarket sub like the Infiniti Basslink.

Finally, you might want to think about upgrading the speakers. The DSP speakers are two levels upgraded from the stock speakers, so you would get better performance. The Bavarian Soundwurks speaker upgrade would be a great compliment to the DSP amp.

Now for the work...

You will need to reroute some wiring at the radio over to the DSP amp area. The speakers all run directly to the radio module by the battery in the stock system. You will need to run some additional speaker wires to each door, and/or reroute the wires at the radio over to the DSP amp.

You will also need to feed the radio's output over to the DSP amp as well.

Then, study the WDS, and tie the rerouted and new wiring into the amp's three plugs. You will also need to run a power and ground feed into the DSP amp.

That is the 2 minute answer, but it should give you the highlights.
