TV Auxiliary In (E53)

Hey guys,

Being Winter in Australia at the moment, I've got to do the family tradition, and go in convoy down to the Snow. With me having the new car with the glass roof, my Nephews and Nieces have filled my car up for the first time ever. My Brother's Mazda has had Rear TV Screens fitted into the car to keep the kids entertained, and they have already asked me what I will be letting them watch in the car on the way down. My Question is this:

What Do I need to get video from my Laptop, and into the TV? On the rear of my Centre Console, I have two plugs, one for in, and the other for out. My Laptop (MacBook Pro) has, with enough adaptors, an S-Video cable that allows me to get video out of it, but I don't know how to connect it to the TV of the X5. The other question is this: How do I disable the Speed Sensor to allow the TV to continue to display images once the car is moving?

Thanks for your help.

Andrew.

Do you have navigation or TV icon on the dash or both?

You may need a TV tuner or use a aftermarket video converter if you don't have a video module.

i have the same in the back. im assuming you just need the proper cable (that carries audio and video), plug it into the socket, and watch it on the "AV" channel of the TV. Thats how im listening to my ipod at the moment until the Intravee arrives. I just have a cable that does audio at the moment.

as for the speed sensor bizzo, i havent looked yet. i assume its either a) a computer issue, or b) you can do it from instructions online?

i know people who could do it via the computer method, just hasnt been tried yet. a big 'maybe'

Gobbleoff is correct. Assuming you have the TV option you just need the correct 1/8" connector with 3 pins? I believe the A/V IN takes composite video and mono audio, while sharing a single ground or shield.

As for TV in motion. You can get cables off the internet that patch between the TV Tuner and existing wire harness, which will allow you to drive over 3 MPH with "AV" selected. Or you can buy an I-Bus interface and use NavCoder with your computer to recode your TV Tuner to allow TV in motion. Recoding the TV Tuner is certainly the cleaner option, but takes more work.

watching Tv on the Nav screen is a bit of a joke really, unless you are up front. rear passangers cannot see much in daylight.

I would suggest buying yourself an 8"-10" portable dvd player with Avi/divx/usb & TV tuner features off ebay
much better than buying TV-on modules ... imho
I am still waiting for price of 12" versions to come down on Ebay
