I don't know this from personal experience, but I have read that the commonly-selected level of preamp output was 1.5V on BMWs.

Is it safe to assume the Radio Shack D/A converter was not designed for the car on a 12VDC system and that could be the culprit? Should I add a noise suppressor? My ground is only 6 inches long. Any help would be great.
Thanks |

No and no.
Noise supressors usually don't help with hiss. Wait - make that never. Grounds either. You're applying fixes for engine/alternator noise to a noise floor issue - different beasts. Is the volume level of the iPod when you switch to it similar to the level of the tuner and CD? I guess I should have said buzz. This sounds like alternator noise in my sound system. If I turn on the AC it becomes louder.

I guess I should have said buzz. This sounds like alternator noise in my sound system. If I turn on the AC it becomes louder. If I disconnect the left and right input from the D/A converter the sound goes away(with the car running). Also, the sound is not there if I do not start the car. (Sounds perfect with car off)
Please help. |

Does the intensity vary with RPM?
(Sorry, Tom - should've known you'd be here). |
