AM radio went out

The other day the AM dial in my 2003 4.4 went out. All you hear is static. The FM dial is noticeably weaker as well. Anyone have this problem before? My guess is the antennae somehow got disconnected.

So i took it into the dealer for a look today and had to pay $190 to diagnose the problem. Now they are telling me the radio is bad and want another $750 to replace it.

Since my mk4 nav was the 16:9 screen with a tape deck I'm just going to go after market. OEM looks cleaner but for that money I can get a DVD player, ipod hookup and touch screen nav. Any suggestions on an after market nav? I had a Pioneer Avic N1 in my e46 but i want something to fill the whole din.
