BM54's final output stage is prone to failure, I've seen many units with this kind of problem. I suggest you replace the final stage with another circuit and you're done. I shouldn't cost you more than £50 to repair it. It simply doesn't worth to pay for a new one in your case.

I was refering to audio final stage, aka audio power amplifiers. They are 2( for 2 channels each), covered by epoxy resin.

I tried looking for my Amp last year and I gave up.
My X5 has 4 speakers in the doors and two tweeters in the dash. Bearing in mind I am in the UK, does the radio module go straight to the speakers or to an Amplifier?.

I have not been able to find and Amplifier nor know what it looks like on the X5. Any clues where I can find it?

No, power ic chips from bm54 module. If you have only 4 speakers, most likely don't have an external amplifier, the speakers are connected to BM54 module directly.

This is exactly what i am trying to confirm - that there are some x5 models out there with speakers connected to bm54 directly...., I cant find any amp in sight. I traced the wires from the BM54 module all the way to the side panels where the nav unit/cd changer is until they disappeared behind the carpeted side walls of boot.

Another question that comes to mind is that my amplifier has got rca/phono inputs

When i tap into the 2 pair of wires (from the Radio module) that feed the rear door speakers, do I :-
1) need a LOC or
2) just connect the wires straight to RCA/phono leads

Something else I want to understand, The stock speakers draw 4 ohm per channel. If so wont adding an additional set of wires to feed the subwoofer stress the radio module?

cheers
