advice pls - Radio module faulty right speaker

hi all, happy new year!

Car is BMW X5 E56 2005 with SATNAV but no Amp or DSP
My front Right speaker(high & mid) is not working or almost at whisper level at Max Volume.
I traced the problem to the radio module by connecting a speaker directly to pins 2 & 6.

Anyone face this/similar problem before or what are my options to resolve this
thanks

It sounds like the output amp in the radio module is dead. This is somewhat uncommon in the newer radios, but I guess you are just "lucky." You will need a new radio module.

ouch, does that mean no chance of repairing the unit itself. I sure the radio module is going to cost a fair bit!

cheers

hi again, when buying a used one :-

1) is it plug and play or it will need some form of programing?
2) does this unit incorporate 16:9 navigation ..... Bluetooth....?
4) will i be buying the BM54 Version?

cheers

  1. Yes, a radio replacement is plug-and-play and requires no coding/programming.
  2. You would just replace the radio-- it is independent of 16:9 screen and Bluetooth.
  3. You could buy either the BM53 or BM54. The BM53 is a less expensive global market radio. The BM54 us Euro-only and it has more bands, traffic master, and displays more screen information.

£400 sounds high for a for a BM54. I would expect a BM54 to sell for around £350 and a used BM53 to sell for around £240.

Faulty BM54 - can it be repaired?

Does anyone know whether the BM54 is repairable?
The local dealer only wish to replace with new.
Second hand units are circa £350 but few come with any warranty and the speaker output failure is a common problem.
I have spoken to a few radio repairers who say that this module is not repairable but there must be someone who can repair and offer exchange units?

sorry ro revive this tread.

All speakers are now gone, so nothing to loose if i take it out to play with.

If I take the BM54 Radio Module out, will I loose my Navigation/on board computer functionality?

Thanks

You have no risk if you remove the BM54 to tinker. Everything else will continue to function. You will not have any audio for the navigation instructions, but that is probably inoperative anyway. Also, all of the radio-related buttons on the left side of the display will be inoperative, but that will not impact any other systems.
