Good point - you seem to have 10-pins on the Audio port. Let me do some more homework tonight and see what I can come up with. We'll be in contact soon.

I am assuming you used either a GLI or a soundagte loc to filter out the noise and male to female rca and tapped into the output?

As he and I have discussed on the phone, I'd use a Jensen Iso-Max CL-2RR. The transformers have metal cans on each one and the whole PCB is in a metal box. There is a lot of EMI in the air of the X5 - you can hook up an amp, connect the inputs to a regular GLI or LOC with transformers like a Soundgate, take a tweeter and connect it to the output of the amp, and move the LOC or GLI around in the car and hear the background noise that the GLI/LOC device picks up get louder and softer (the internal transformer coil acts as an antenna). We had the car TOTALLY quiet and then we stuffed the SOundgate FLI back in the side panel and the noise came back.

So that's why I bought the Jensen Iso-Max, and it worked VERY well. With a 1K sine wave test CD, we could not measure ANY DC offset on the outputs of the Iso-Max.

And the frequency response is stellar, especially in the low notes. Bass notes are often attenuated with GLIs because the low-frequency notes "look" like DC, and transformers don't pass DC until they get "saturated", so the lower a note, the worse the attenuation.

The Iso-Max is -3dB down at .25 Hz and 50K, respectively, and can handle 7V of signal at 20Hz before saturating.

I checked my extra R17 & R40 harnesses - I completely forgot about this when upgrading my 5-series Business Cassette to Business CD.

The earlier harnesses will have a 10-pin audio port, while the R40 harnesses have the 12-pin. The picture below clearly shows the difference:

R17 Connectors are found on MY2001-09/2002 Business CD Radios
R40 Connectors are found on 10/02+ Business CD Radios and Navigation.

Keep in mind that BMWs close to model year cutoffs may vary with electronics, (example: 07/02 model may have later R40 harness).

For those with pre 10/02 Radios, this harness would work with your application, this is sourced from an early model 5-series.

If you want to remove the DSP, you will need one of these harnesses to bring the signal to the rear:

MY10/02+ Radios w/ R40 Connector (includes Business CD and NAV models)
84.11.0.150.525 - CONNECTION CABLE CD CHANGER - $19.00 approx.

MY2000-MY09/02 Radios with R17 Connector (Business CD)
65.12.8.360.754 - CONNECTION CABLE CD CHANGER, 4210mm - $47.00 approx.

Both of these cables can be sourced through BMW or myself as well.

I'm not sure what conenction the MY2000-09/02 X5s with NAV use, maybe someone with that model year can assist?

OK. I have had some success. I now have pre outs, and only need to input the Icelink into the analog side of the tuner for the CD. I found an adapter with wires to connect to the port on the tuner. Now I just need to know the pinout of the tuner to connect the inputs of the ice link to. I have used the chart I found in the articles section, but they did not work. Please help.

Cable arrived this afternoon - this is what you'll need on the 10/02 & later radios if you decide to disable the DSP:

Part has been confirmed, length is about 13.5 feet - plenty of length to route to the rear cargo area.
