Actually I think it's worth it. It's relatively cheap, $30 or so, OE BMW, and gets line-level sound from an aux audio source. That's enough for some people. Others understandably want more control and sophistication. YMMV

gianvito - if you control the sound from your ipod in addition to your steering wheel/nav then you are using the headphone jack on the ipod for output. Get a dock connector cable and the sound will only be regulated by the steering wheel/nav controls.
