Holy old thread batman!

The first time around (like the pics show) I was able to fit the Alpines into the factory shroud....about a year after however, I swapped out the rear type-S's for type r's---at which point I also made a set of custom shrouds to mount them ---remounting the fronts as well.

Once you get the factory speaker separated from the shroud, you should be able to remount just about any speaker inside the shroud; and remount that to the door.

good tip! you installed 6.5" type R's, right?

is there any kind of annoying vibrations or distortion from the woofer cone humming against the door grill?

i'm going to look up the mounting depth of the Type R's and kind of use that as a baseline as to what woofer i will get

As long as you take the time to fit everything neatly you shouldn't have any issuses with buzzing/rattling or vibrations.

A word of caution, I think the type-r's have gone through a couple iterations since I did my install...so the listed mounting depth of the current model may vary from the ones I used. Just be aware of that.
