ps switching for the aux input requires ideally a remote source selector (usually electronic).

check out something like:

http://www.shoptronics.com/jeksmumoauvi.html

I'm not a big Jensen fan, but other brands exist.......

you connect the output from this to the aux in, and the inputs from other sources (independent XM, Ipod, Sirius, Carputer, etc) to this, and use the remote to switch between sources......

if you want VIDEO on the front NAV screen, you need something more than just a DVD player.

you can do the OEM Tuner/Tv on Nav or Nav-TV Tuner, or there is the new Tv on Nav option (does not require the OEM TV tuner)...

read this:

http://tvonnav.com/bmwrgb.html

Had this been available, I would have selected this when I bought my OEM tuner...

TVonNAV Video Input System

Cost: $499 (much cheaper than the OEM systems)...

ah, ok. so, there is no need for the OEM Tuner w/ the $499 option.
i would just need that $499 module and a DVD player. cool. thanks!

just be aware the $499 option does not have a built in TV tuner. but allows you two video inputs... you can add more using a switch as derived above.

you could get satellite TV (the unit is a few thousand $$$ for the dish), or by a separate TV tuner/TV antenna for receiving local broadcasts if you are so inclined...

the tv tuner would allow me to pick up local tv broadcasts, right? i'm not in the vehicle that often to need tv. dvd would be nice for trips and such. thanks for the great info.

yep, the tv tuner would work for that. but since i rarely watch local TV, its almost useless except for breaking news or sports..

Just to clarify I have all the items I have the DVD changer I have video in motion I have aux lead for the head unit and the video in motion it all works a treat apart from changer is to big for the hole but hopefully tomorrow will have this sorted . I had it all working last night and was very impressed with the unit the only thing that I cant work out is how Janix in this article manager to have two separate sources running of one auxiliary input.

I will put the link here to the post I am talking about for those who have not seen it I also found it very helpful with my install just stuck on the switch bit, and how it works exactly.
