having been flooded with all sorts of suggestions..., NOT! I went out on a limb and ordered an Alpine INA-W900 w/nav/bluetooth/backup camera.

now I get to rip out the bluetooth I never finished installing, the 16:9 split screen, and the Mk4 DVD nav v32.

Question? Will the BMW error messages still display above the steering wheel after I've replaced the dash unit?

Sorry, I have no clue regarding your question. Just subscribing to see photos of the install.

of course, now that I made a decision, I find bimmernav has a plug'n'play solution to update the nav & stereo, gives me back CDs, Ipod, hooks into the bluetooth, & that keeps it "stock". Time to re-think it all.

going with the Alpine INA-W900. being done by a local installer, with whom I've had good experience.

Have you shown him how to make the nessesary cuts behind the dash to fit a double DIN unit? You may need to find and print a double DIN installation thread.

yes, I've shown him where to look, and he's already pulled more info from other BMW websites. These guys have been around for quite a while. And I had them do upgrades on my 2001 GMC van. They even have looked into the dynavin unit, if I decided to go that route. knowledgable, friendly, very good reputation for quality work.

Thanks for the thought.
