Can I do the AUX install?

I have a 2003 X5 business CD with DSP, do not have Nav or CD changer. I found a bluetooth antenna loose in the space where the DSP is so I might have had the phone option at one time, dunno. I'm the second owner. Can I do an aux input mod to my radio? I am just looking for a way to tap in. I have so many conflicting things coming up in search. Thanks a bunch!

Yes you can. I did it myself and it is pretty simple. If you want, just PM me and I can walk you through it if necessary.

Thanks guys!

PS- what is on this wire besides a 50 cent aux plug? I see a small bulky area near the plug that looks like a noise filter. Can someone confirm what the contents of the plug are? (I won't have my plug for a week or two)

Yep, necessary filters to keep the 'pop' from blowing a speaker.

Thanks. Looks like red and blue are L+R positive and brown is common ground. You could wrap a few ferrite core magnets around the cable and do the same thing as the filter (a small capacitor across the leads would work as well), effectively making this cable for about $2.50, but as far as pre made goes this is pretty much it as far as I can see. Least it is available to the market I suppose.

Due to the fact I needed about 12 feet of this setup to the AUX plug I decided to DIY. The AUX plug is going in the sunglasses compartment overhead with a 60 gig iPod video. It will allow an almost natural experience reaching for it to swap songs, as well keep it out of my lower compartments which I actually USE.

The last pic is not correct. The resistor is wrong. (I don't have a 300k Tonight) I am giving a physical representation of it. I'll post the proper way tomorrow as I install it.

Turns out there is an access hole I can use on the sunglasses area (which is use for emergency manual sunroof operation if needed). I would go through all the trouble to drill, cut , mount, etc..... the AUX plug, but since I am only using it as a dedicated iPod connection and this is not the part I will ever be unhooking I'm just going to drop it in there and secure it so it doesn't move. This will provide a zero altered setup I can revert back to stock.

The part that will be unhooked from the iPod if I decide to take it out will be in the case cubby and is easy to do. So far I have the audio wired, now it's time to run the power (charge) from the dome main harness + wire.
