Having an early 01, this still sucks for me because it seems I need to change to a newer version of the CD player to make this still work :-/

no, not for USB. USB is using a protocol that is NOT supported by the radio... 2 wires for 5V DC (can be done) and two wires for serial bus (can't be done)

What has this company designed that we can't make ourselves? I don't know what's intergrated into the circuit board, but that cable would be easy enough to make.

In a true AUX set up, you retain all your original audio inputs, such as radio, CD changer, cassette deck and gain an AUX.

In this setup, you lose your CD changer, and the input that used to be the CDC input is "reprogrammed" to be an AUX - the 3-pin module contains a IC microcontroller that is programmed to tell the iBus that is an AUX (wording is programmed into the IC, and it can say anything that you want, in this case they chose to say "AUX"). When the "CDC" input chosen from the headunit, the microcontroller (that mimics presence of the CDC) is activated, and accordingly, the 6-pin or coax audio cable for the original CDC is activated and "sound" info is piped through the amp into the speakers of the car...

they are not compatible with the nav cars (using BM53/54 radios) nor with the DSP... However, I wonder if the "analog" DSPs can be compatible, as they still use the 6-pin connector for the sound...

However, in their particular application, they use the direct pins on the back of the radio for the audio in, which is a bit confusing - I would need to look up the WDS diagrams to figure the reasoning to use pin directly on the back of the radio, and not the CDC pins in the back of the car - the 6-pin connector...

However, to be honest, for the price of entry, at $40 for this set up, I do not think it is worth reverse engineering the set up, as the system, if works as advertised, is priced fairly for the function it presents...

the drawback is loss of the CDC...

the benefit - you can connect a BT dongle, and pipe your favorite Pandora right to your car...

Honestly, I'm absolutely fine losing my outdated 6 disk CD changer in exchange for Pandora streaming and everything else I can do online. I did email them and they verified that I can't use it because I've got DSP, so I'm back to square one which is just getting off my butt and replacing the entire stereo again.

What kind DSP do you have? With coax or 6-pin connector?
