i built the cable with according to bmw manual with the 0.22uf capacitors and 300kOhm resistor. Plugged L/R into pins 3/4 and ground to pin 10.

I Turned on the car, held the [m] button and still can not get it to switch to Aux mode.

I vaguely remembering having Aux mode at some point... not sure though.

The radio *should* have AUX mode. It shows the manufacture date as 01-05.

Any suggestions??
thanks

um I hate to ask a question like this - you did create the cable so that the 0.22uf capacitors are between the resistor the aux input.

ie

head unit 3 - resistor - capacitor - aux
...................resistor
head unit 4 - resistor - capacitor - aux

and NOT

head unit 3 - capacitor - resistor - aux
...................................resistor
head unit 4 - capacitor - resistor - aux

The capacitors isolate the aux device from the 300k "trigger" resistor. If around the wrong way the 300k value will be affected by the connected device and may or may not trigger the aux option.

But then your head unit is quite old. I found this list in my travels.

65.12-6 904 213 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3
65.12-6 904 214 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3 (remanufactured part number)
