Think what you want, but any X5 owner buying a CleanSweep is wasting not only money, but precious space.

The Clean Sweep can be defined in a block diagram as a speaker level and balanced-line LOC, a digital EQ that auto-adjusts to make the input as flat as possible, an aux in, and a line driver with a volume knob.

The volume knob is intended to be used with systems (like the VW Monsoon system or the Acura TL) which actively change their equalization drastically with volume (in that case, taking all the bass out). The BMW systems don't do that in the HU... they might do it in the amp, but if you are bypassing the amp, you don't need it.

It seems ungracious to keep complaining about the forum, frankly. There are many forums out there and their strengths are different. The Audio and Electronics forums on bimmerfest and bimmerforums are VERY different, for example.

The biggest difference I notice on this forum is that there aren't a lot of stickies, so you need to search for what you're looking for. I don't get that you've done that yet.

At my shop, we had an X5 owner for a customer a while back, and I found everything I needed about doing a very clean high-fidelity upgrade using the OEM HU here on xoutpost.com.

I just had to look.

You can bypass the OEM amp, get 4 channels of full-range un-equalized sound, and run those into any balanced-capable amp or into various other means of going single ended (my personal favorite is the Iso-Max CI-2RR).

It's not that hard.
Hi there, what you have done in the above post is to express your opinion in what you consider to be the best solution it does however mean it is the best.

Anyone thinking about the JL Cleansweep don't hesitate it's good even in my X5. just got it fitted.

works fine with stock sat/nav the steering wheels button works fine

you can hook your ipod up via the cleansweep and hide the ipod away the display comes up in the sat/nav and the steering buttons work fine also selecting tracks etc etc.

It's not just an opinion, it's a fact.

I am not saying the JL CleanSweep doesnt' work... I'm sure it works fine.

I'm saying it's not needed in this application in order to have great sound. There are some applications where it's very much needed (or its equivalent). The X5 is NOT one of them. In fact, NO BMW with analog copper outputs from the tuner to the amp requires a Clean Sweep. None.

If you have it in your car and it works, great. If you want to spend $400 for an aux audio in, that's your right as an American. But that has nothing to do with the fact that it's not needed in your car in order to upgrade the amp and speakers.

If you want me to stipulate that "any installer who needs one on an X5shouldn't be working on an X5 in the first place" is my opinion, I do so stipulate.

My sincere apologies for my earlier Yankee-centricity.

But you're not speaking to the point. It isn't needed.

I get customers all the time who are afraid of being "sold" something they don't really need. It's a common fear of shoppers.

So here I am discouraging the spending of money for something you don't really need, and I can't convince someone of that... LOL.

well it's no good you being over there and me over here it would cost more for me to bring my motor to you than get the cleansweep installed

What are you doing for Sat? Or are you at all? The stock setup costs so much for so little features..I'm not sure if I really want to go this route or not.
