Audio overhaul breakdown

Hey guys,

Looking to pick up an 03 E53, No nav has DSP. What are my options for factory installed parts? Was BT available? I would like to add Ipod and Sat radio if available. I have an e39 that has what I believe was the same system and I gutted it to do a complete aftermarket Alpine system. Am I going to have to do the same to this X5? I work for a local mobile audio/video shop and I have installed the Dice, Isimple, etc in other BMW's but not the E53 and they always seemed "clunky" to me and didnt seem to be as "seemless" as they make it sound to be. We dont run accross any factory type installs so I dont know much about it. If I can retain the factory system, gain function of ipod, BT and Sat using factory parts that would be great, if not im not afraid of gutting it and starting over...again.

Thanks
Dave

not sure whats available now. but i had an 04 e53 from 04-08. it had the premium audio, but no nav. it sounds awful. you will save money and have better sound by gutting it.

Nobody else has any info or comments? I ended up getting the car, and noticed it has a CD in the dash and no changer....

you can do BT and Sat using factory parts - BT is plugged in the trunk, you will need to use a special plug for the Voice Recognition plug, the factory module should be of 13th generation... check bimmernav.com...
the Sat is done using factory module, and factory harness, that plugs into the CD changer...

The iPod - aftermarket units, such as Dice and whatever - do a search here, to see what other people used to integrate into the car's system...

The factory option for BT is not cheap - it might offset you close to a grand, the Sat - probably $200-$500... since you don't have Nav, you need to find a unit that works in your situation, do a search. i have some part numbers but not sure about the non-nav cars. for the cables you need part # 84 11 0 141 977, 84 11 0 141 978 and you may consider the slim antenna that can be fitted into the spoiler, part # 84 11 0 390 239.

I see that bimmernav has a BT upgrade kit, around the 700 range, the sirius on the otherhand is a little confusing. I cant seem to find a definitive answer on if x5 with a build date of 12/02 supports factory sirius radio. The car has DSP, and single in dash CD player, no changer. I cant seem to find anything about this, does anyone know? As far as IPOD, I was hoping there was a factory option, not too thrilled about the Dice, grom, etc peices.

Thanks guys
Dave

the sat install depends on the radio model that you have and the built date for the radio... concentrate your search in that area...
also, you can ask the bimmernav people about the sat question - they seem to be very knowledgable... search E38 forums - there are a few folks out there who have retrofitted almost every option possible...

I see some talk about the radio model for the nav systems, BM54 or whatever, I dont have the need for that correct? the radio is actually part of the CD player in the dash right? is that the model your referring too? Is there a breakdown on what part numbers work and dont work?
