My sons and I sub box experiment
so we gave it a shot. disclaimer: I am not an audio professional, my fiberglass skills are not great, and most important this is an experiment..... We read the threads about using the stock sub box and adding a MDF front. Well we did that. cut the front off and simply traced the outline on some 3/4 mdf. and cut it out. We used some liquid nails to fix the box securly to the MDF then wrapped the outside in Fiberglass. here is a pic.

the sub we are planning on using is a MB Quart RL245 shallow sub.
its 10 inch dia. there was one curve in the stock box we had to remove and modify to fit a 10 inch securely. the sub operates in a min of .4 cu ft. so I think it will work good. here is another pic the smudge on the woofer is a mistake my son made he had something on his had and smeared it on the woofer, now its shiney.. ha ha

i might have to modify the cover in the rear hatch so the speaker doesnt vibrate against it when its moving. but we will post pics and results this weekend.
the sub appears to be a very good quality sub for this purpose.

this seems to be working out good so far.
If I were to do it again, there would be two things I would change first I would use 1/2 inch MDF instead of 3/4. this would set the woofer back about 1/4 inch. or if I had a router I could have set the woofer into the mdf 1/4 inch to make it flush with the surface. second, The subwoofer has to be as high in box as you can get it. The set up I created the very bottom of the woofer is at the very bottom of the interior cover and making a sutable grill might be challenging.

i noticed you were in winnipeg canada. I grew up about 80 miles to the south of you.. nice to see some people from the area on here. I have some pics but they are terrible quality, as the flash floods out everthing I need to get some sunlight in my shop. i will be working on the cover for the interior. Like I said the sub sits about 1/2 inch closer to the cover than the factory crap did so the cover needs to be modified a bit. pics to come.
