XM and Blitzsafe Adaptor . . .

Hey everyone, I just recently joined this forum after getting a 2006 X5 3.0. The SAV is great and I can't be happier with the performance, handling and ride.

Quick question though (I've tried the search but can't seem to find anything). On the opening page of xoutpost.com there's a posting about XM direct and the blitzsafe adaptor with pictures of the install. It shows the placement of both the XM direct receiver and the Blitzsafe adaptor into the car with the head unit now displaying XM info. However, the car this is placed into is a 5 series.

Has anyone tried this type of install either with XM or Sirius? And if so, did it work as it did in the posting?

I would just have the dealer installed Sirius done, but they want $700 or so for the install. Seems a bit pricey. I priced out this method and it will be about $250 for all the parts and install, much more reasonable. But before I put the money down, I wanted to make sure it would work.

First off, :xoutpost:

As for the blitzsafe and XM Direct, it will work as long as you don't have NAV. I'm also going to move this to the stereo forum, might get some better response there.

Blitzsafe and XM

There are two choices for adapters for your XM Direct unit. I chose the adapter that allows adding a CD changer as well--just in case I NEED one. The whole install takes less than 15-20 minutes once you find the connector behind the left rear wheel well access panel. I mounted the antenna just behind the left roof rack railing right on the roof and tucked the cable down the edge of the door seal.
It took longer to have XM activate the unit than it did to do the install.

Yes, I did the XM Direct also. I got it from here (I can't believe it is even cheaper than when I bought it 6 months ago!). As mentioned, the installation is incredibly easy. I installed the antenna inside the rear spoiler, so it is a completely stealth installation (this article shows you how). It works flawlessly.

I would be glad to answer specific questions for you, as you go along.
