Decisions, decisions!!

Well at the CES show last week, I got a chance to see the new version of their CleanSweep. It's pretty cool. I know there's some of you that don't like this way and prefer LOCs to the CS. The CleanSweep® CL-SSI is their new version which my installer is recommending. I'm torn between trying to keep the stock NAV setup or just yanking the whole thing and going a totally different route w/aftermarket all the way through and through.

So I'm trying to convince myself one way or the other...what are the benefits that I may be overlooking if I were to keep the stock headunit?

Assuming I can get an aftermarket double DIN setup in the dash, I haven't pulled it apart yet but have read you can I really don't see any drawbacks. Having a DVD player in dash would certainly beat a standalone unit elsewhere. The cost of the stock Sirius adapter kit will pay for more than 30% of a top of the line DBL DIN. I'd lose the vehicle computer readouts on the display as far as MPG, ETA etc etc... Another benefit would be better SQ with an aftermarket unit and 5 or 7v preouts.

The other decision I need to make is whether or not I want to lose the spare tire and sink my amps flush with the floor, or buildup the floor and recess the amps in the false floor.

The last decision is on the sub..I have a 10w7 from my M, but I don't think I can get a box w/enough volume in the space on the passenger side...an 8w7 shouldn't be a problem, but I can't see fitting the 10 in there flush, there's a lot less room than I initally thought!

Basically this is just a brain dump and throwing it out to the group for some ideas and suggestions on what you've done and seen done.

Well you know my opinion ....

I have been on the fence to replace the OEM headunit and ended up not doing it. Besides loosing the BC you'd also loose the capability to set time/date etc.... after a power loss (all done via the HU) .

I personally would probably first go with the OEM HU (I am assuming
you have the NAV unit) and maybe later down the road you can always add a new HU (and you can always move the OEM HU into the glove box or somewhere else)

As has been mentioned by Kevin/el_duderino you don't need to use a CleanSweep if you have DSP as you can remove the DSP amp and revert the system to a non-DSP setup.

As for installing an amp or sub in the cargo department. As you've probably seen with my setup (http://www.janixworld.com/x5/Stereo/) installing a 10"/12" sub into the factory location can be a very challenging build. Especially if you want to go the 12" route. As for amps the easiest route would be to just hide them under the floor cover and rebuild the insert with something more durable. In my case we've rebuild the entrie loading floor which is very time consuming, it will look great but requires a lot of work and knowledge to make it look good and still be functional.

If you want to talk the folks who build my subwoofer enclosure and amp rack let me know and I'll get you in touch with them. They'll be more than happy to help and let you know how labor intensive it is to build a propper sub wooder enclosure for an X5 ....

I think that you need a new installer... and that there are some posts on this forum that would hugely benefit you.

The "new" clean sweep is only an external module for the original clean sweep. It allows speaker level channel summing like the AudioControl LC8.

If you do what I've documented doing (with the help of others) you don't need it, or the clean sweep, or an LC8. HU output is flat as a pancakke above like 35% on the volume control and that curve is simply a mild auto-loudness Fletcher Munson curve that is not even detectable when driving.

If you want an aftermarket HU for features, fine... but from an SQ perspective, the OEM HU can sound very good when properly interfaced... and that interface can cost less than $400 and not take up nearly the amount of room the CS will.

The W7 will definitely come out a ways and the W6 would probably not fit either.

What's the BC? I'd still like to take a listen to yours if you're in the area this week at all?

Is this written up somewhere or just doing a search on your posts will pull it up? I"d like to read up on it. I've been doing all the reading I can to get as much info as possible before making any decisions. I used the NAV for the 1st time the other night and was very happy that I didnt get lost! Yea, on the sub, I was hoping for the 10, but think an 8 will have to do.

As long as I can have a DVD player for my DVD audio discs, and Sirius radio, I'll be a happy camper. Having DVD upfront would really be a plus too...maybe going the single Alpine player route?

Yep , Ken (the action figure ) posted his experience in removing the DSP amp in the following thread http://www.xoutpost.com/showthread.ph...&highlight=dsp .
I have not yet removed my DSP amp as the plan is to do it all together when I move to a new amp setup this spring.

BC is the Board Computer ....

I am around todayTuesday but will be out of the country until early February.
