e53 replacing radio with eonon GA5166 DVD/GPS/TV/Android4.2.2

So I decided to buy the Eonon GA5166 unit to replace my factory radio in my 2003 X5 e53. Its not the DSP radio and amp, but Eonon support thinks so. The cable that came with the unit is turning the Radio on. The steering wheel controls work. Wifi, Internet, Radio, DVD. The problem is, the unit is sending the audio back to the BMW factory amp. I do not believe the amp is turning on, so I cannot hear audio. I am thinking about just replacing the factory amp, but would prefer to check and see if this unit will work with my amp. If not, then I’ll buy an amp that will mount directly into the factory amp rail location?

Did you have to cut or remove your bracket that held your factory radio? I just installed an Eonon D5166U. I had the DSP system, but I'm doing away with all of that an installing 2 amps. The Eonon is just resting in the hole in the dash. I can't find a way to secure it in place...and it's driving me crazy. Everything I saw online said I'd have to cut or remove the bracket, so I cut it.

(You can always cut styrofoam that came in packaging to give support in the dash. I also took the silver brackets and bolted it to unit and cut the ends down to size and then drilled holes that would align with holes on dash.

Hello, also interested in this thread, I am just about to purchase this same unit.

How did you fix this problem? Did you not have to purchase the "A0569 BMW Extended Installation Wiring Harness 17Pin 40Pin for GA5150 GA5166"for your setup?

Let us know please!

I skipped all that. I'm installing separate amps.

I am trying to install the Eonon GA5166 in my BMW 2006 X5 (E53). The car doesn't have DSP. Everything works (GPS, WiFi, steering wheel controls, etc) but I don't get any audio, Can someone tell me why? How can I fix it. By the way I had to cut out the plastic cage. I'd appreciate any help

yes please, I am still sitting on the fence as far as getting one, because I don't feel like running a separate amp and wires to the speakers. Interested in a plug and play solution like it claims, but a little skeptical with some of the post I have read.

One solution I read was to plug and play the eonon unit but leave the MID in the glove box to power up the stock amp.. Interesting, but not sure if that was the plug and play option I was looking for.

Please share your experience!
