16:9 Nav display screen fading out issue

Anyone know, short of replacing the display screen itself, on how to fix the fading out of screen issue? When X5 is started, the screen is OK, but in a couple of minutes the screen beings to dim to black. Rather annoying. Radio and maps work fine. No problems with screen display changing from mode to mode. But the dimming, which only started recently, is driving me bonkers! Is there a circuit board or module to look at to replace or fix, aside from getting a new screen or display unit as a whole? System is a MkII in X5 e53 MY2001 3.0i auto. No phone module, just basic speaker setup for the Nav system.
