Can upgrade my MK3 with a MK4 unit bought in Germany (eBay.de)

I have been thinking about upgrading to the MK4. I noticed that eBay.de sells the MK4 for less than on eBay.com. The mk4 used sells for around $400 and new for $600. Compared to the US prices of $700 for used and $1000 for new. Does anyone know if I will have any problems with either used or new?

I suppose the used will be in EURO mode and I would have to go to the dealer if I wanted it back in USA mode. Is that right? Is there anything else I should be aware of? I know there would be additional shipping costs but still the MK4 is alot less.

With the new MK4 will it be coded automatically to USA when it is plugged in. Will it auto detect the cd changer and head unit that I have?

As long as the MkIV you get is for an i-bus vehicle that has the color screen monitor then it will work just fine. There's a good chance that it will be in Euro mode, which means that you will have yards instead of feet and no accept screen. Everything will work when you plug it in, including all existing peripherals (note, it may take the unit a few minutes to detect everything properly after first being connected).

Can you tell by model number or other identification which MK4's have the iBus? How does the coding work? Is it the 4 digit number you enter on the NAV manually? I thought it was an immobilizer to stop the car from starting without the code. Can a previously number be given (written down) to the new owner of the NAV?

If the MK4 came from a e46 and I want to put it in my e39 will it work without having to go to the dealer? And what if it came from a e39 and I put it in my e39 will it work without going to the dealer as well?

I assume a brand new MK4 would install with no glitches?
