Mine's a US 530I so the update works fine for these models. I can't say if US dealers would have this yet though since I downloaded it from the link posted earlier in this thread and performed the upgrade myself

Most European dealers have the 27.1 allready. They received it latest this week. I guess the US dealers should have gotten it also. BUt even If U get a V27 on Your new car it would be absolutely fine! I have installed V27.1 on my X3 and I got it installed in my friends X5 yesterday from the dealer. Can not see any difference until now

You probably will lose the custom startup image, but you probably will not get Accept back. The only way to get the Accept back is to have a dealer re-code the nav computer.

would i have to upgrade to 27.1, downgrade to 26 then re-uprgade to 27.1 (re-compiled with my own startup image) ?

or could i just modify the 27.1 with my startup image and upgrade to not lose it?

So long as you are changing the OS version the image will be updated too, so going from 27 -> 27.1 will load the image from the disk. This would be the recomended path as loading an older version and then a newer one again can cause undesirable side effects, better to just keep going up.

1. Push the "MENU" button to get to the the main menu.
2. Scroll to the "SETTINGS" menu selection and click the knob to select it.
3. Push and hold the "MENU" button for about 8 seconds to enter the GPS Service Menu.
4. Scroll beyond the bottom to a 2nd page, where you will get the Perspective option.

Hi treat me gently Uk owner new to BMW's,X5's & SATNAVas well as not being a computer guru, (despite using them at home and work daily in recent years).

I met up with a local ebayer today to try and fit another V50 phone jack lead to my X5 (another story and full of technical hassle due to e39 cable being too short - I wont post here so as to keep this on topic) .

I have widescreen 16:9 comms & Nav screen & was running on 3-1/40 which was version 18 I think. Anyway this guy said as well as trying to resolve my phone cable, (as said still unresolved), he would upgrade my SATNAV OS software on my Mk3 satnav unit. He brought along a copy disc marked V.27.1 which I believe is the latest disc. It seems to have loaded ok, ( no need for key CD from my last version), and seems to be working fine, (just as well as I wouldn't have much idea in sorting issues without reading up on here and/or asking kind contributors). In short time since upgrade I can't notice any extra functionality although he said it would run quicker and would notify me in advance of roadholdups, ( a bit like traffic master ?) . I have noticed TMS shows red at times at bottom of display- I assumeed this was to do with traffic info of sorts.

He had earlier told me it would have birds eye view but before meeting I had already told him I thought birds eye was only available for Mk4. After install it was just as I thought still no birds eye view. He said he would check with a friend who knows more than he does and he has since sent me SMS text confirming no Birds eye view except on the Mk4 which is what I had said to him before upgrade.

2 questions :

1. I have trawled and serached and whilst the FAQ states no birds eye possible for Mk3 upgrade to V27.1 can someone confirm this is 100% definitely the case ?

2. The same guy told me to expect to be able to enter postcodes but I cant se this option in location finder. Am I missing something or is this for Mk4 only too ?

I have just moved house with plenty of spending as well as only just upgrading my car, (unfinanced), so def no plans for mods yet. I may in future consider getting a secondhand Mk4 and then selling my Mk3 on ebay (on wish list with other possible mod's).
Not one to have a nosebleed if not running latest tweaks or having all mods fitted - more happy in ownership at this stage to be grateful for what I own & that it's working correctly and just as it should be. (this goes for the whole car not just the NAV).

Thanks in anticipation - your answers to 1 & 2 appreciated.
