DVD High Europe
I just bought nearly new X5 3.0d in black and cream leather. Love driving it and since it is rather expensive and lovely toy I would like to know eveything to make it work for me. Since this is Navigation forum I have a question about the naviggation DVD. I found that I have finished with BMW Navigation High for Europe 2003-1. I did some research and I think I shall wait for Europe 2007-1, which I believe comes out in October. I have a question though. Is accuracy of the Navigation DVD Europe the same as particular country, say France?. I seem to drive there a lot and in most obscure places and sometimes the nav gives me a message that I'm of digitzed roads. Would changing DVD from Europe to DVD France of the same vintage improve situation? Thanks for hhelp. Now to Detailing Forum |

Europe
Hi Fiona, you mean you were over on the mainland, Scotland is already in Europe. OK, I know everything north of the wall has declared UDI.
Our sat was OK a few weeks ago in France, Italy, Switzerland etc. It didn't however like me taking to the back streets in Paris, it insisted on trying to get us onto the Peripherique. The girl does get mighty insistant when she thinks you've gone off route. Geneva was a nightmare, the sat nav was as bad as me at trying to stay out of triple bendy bus lanes, trolley bus lanes, tram lanes and taxi lanes. On the whole it performed OK, got us to Starbucks on Blvd Victor Hugo, what more could a girl want.

Nothing worse when you follow the sat/nav with a huge caravan on the back of the motor and the dam thing wants to take you down a single track narrow road. |

Welcome voytek! Sounds like you have a very nice, new X5 there! I (we, I'm sure) would love to see some pics - especially the cream beige interior, so post 'em when you get a chance! Also, a question for you... I've never heard of BMW Navigation "High". What exactly does "High" mean? Is this some sort of a Nav option there across the pond? Sorry I can't answer your question, but there's likely someone here who can. Perhaps you could contact Navteq - maybe they can help with your questions. They're the ones who make the DVDs for our navs I believe. GL - I'm sure you'll enjoy it here!!!

Hi, I shall post few pictures straight after I wash the car. At the moment I have long trip to SW France coming so no washing before. On top of that I'm collecting all necessary stuff from Zaino to get the detailing right.
As for "High" , it is, I guess, another version of sat nav software, which works with Professional systems of earlier cars (not the IDrive ilk). I found somewhere on the net the differences between High, Professional and Business sat nav software (not systems) and found that my Professional system uses "High" software. |

Dave thanks for that info. Did you use France 2006-2 High or Europe 2006-2 High? I have to find if there is any diference. If France 2006-2 is more detailed I shall buy it on ebay as well as keep my Europe High, if not, I shall not bother and simply replace my DVD with Europe 2007-1 High when it comes out in October this year. If it containes all info, which is included in detailed maps of particular countries then there is no need for separate DVDs.
I shall conntact Navtec anyway to be sure when 2007-1 comes out. Regards Voytek |

Voytek, there is no France 2006-2 DVD High, only Europe. Being a DVD it's capable of storing all the maps of every country in Europe without the need of additional country-specific disks. |
