Upgrade a tape player to widescreen player?
My fren have e39 with stock oem tape player and he asked me if he can upgrade the oem tape player to the widescreen monitor.

More like is it plug & play (wiring)?

It sounds like he may have the standard radio, and he wants to upgrade to the widescreen navigation screen? If so, then yes, this is possible, but it takes a number of parts and some wiring changes. This is a very popular retrofit to the E38, E39, and X5.

If he has the 4:3 screen in his car, and he wants to upgrade to the 16:9, then this is plug-and-play with no wiring or other changes. You can do that swap in about 15 minutes.

Yes its the standard radio version. He just wants to add the 16:9 screen only.
