Have a look at the map disc and see if it has any surface blemishes too, this wont help, Also if you have a cd map try that, and see if the problem goes away.

DVD looks immaculate.

i may try and edit my UK map down to CD size.
anyone know if this is even possible?

Well thats dead easy

Open lid (no screws)
Remove DVD drive (4 screws, one cable connector)
Fit new drive and reassemble

looked at the guide and theres soldering involved, which ive never done.
is that bit hard?

Easy mate, you just need a soldering iron and a solder sucker, then some solder to replace, very easy mate.

thanks for the response mate.

Does the solder acutally connect any circuits or is it simply to hold the drive in?
if its the latter ill be more comfortable!

thanks again.

its a shame no one in the UK does the "core" swap out style scheme.

The solder is only to do if you replace the laser part yourself, if you plan on just changed the loading mech (with laser), then you don't need to do any soldering.

dont suppose youve got a link or a part number to the loading mechanism and laser?
