Locating docs on Navigation 3 and 5 series iDrive.

I've been floating around the forums for about a year but haven't joined any until I finally purchased a 330i this last week. This website for X5's is has the most advanced information in regards to electronics/nav. Maybe you guys can point me to the right docs.

I've scoured the x5world and many bmw site but I find myself in a minority of people interested in doing anything outside the box to a 3 series. Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction

Try out E60.net or E90post.com

Well I appreciate the answer, but a RTFM doesn't help. I'm a member on both those forums and found very limited information on them. I've also found a great deal of info on X5world. I find more info about engine/exterior/interior mods on those sites you've quoted. I just can't find further info to give me the confidence to start hex/text edit & flash hacked firmware.

I have not seen any significant upgrade and hacking information for the E60 and E90 systems yet. The challenge is that they are significantly different from the navigation systems in the E38/E39/E46/X3/X5/Z4. They are even quite a bit different from the E65/E66 systems. The big difference is that the E60 and E90 systems get their software updates directly from the ProgMan computer rather than from an OS update disk inserted directly into the navigation computer. As a result, the software updates are not readily available to the common man for dissection and analysis. Furthermore, most E60s and E90s on the road are still under warranty, so very few folks have even had the need to tackle updates on their own. As you have probably discovered, most of the E60 and E90 discussions are about which SW versions are the latest and how to get the dealer to upgrade them for free.

I do not mean to be a total discourager, so keep on looking. I just wanted to offer my thoughts on why there is so little upgrade and hack information out there.

Thanks for the response. It seems that I'll have a more difficult time then, especially if I cannot use the rom drive to upload new images.

I was hoping to load the UK edition with the different voice audio recognition stack. And if not the USA version with removed nag features and a different boot screen. Nothing too fancy.

Cheers,

Yzandrl..
