So I just discovered that my X5's Navi was retrofitted
Is there any advantage to me by having a navi from a car that was 2004 model year? my car does not show Aux. Ventilation is this the reason why? lastly does this mean I can have the factory XM radio on my car? when retrofitting the navi does the radio module need to be changed? if there is anything else you guys can think of that may be to my advantage I would appreciate your advice. Thanks Carlos

What likely happened is the previous owner upgraded the nav computer from the MkIII (which is CD-based) to the MkIV (which is DVD based). Consider yourself fortunate, as the MkIV is much faster then the MkIII.
There is no factory XM option, but BMW does offer Sirius. You would need to upgrade your radio module in order to have this capability.

Didn't the 01 X5's originally come with the smaller 4x3 screens? The previous owner probably upgraded to the 16x9 screen. I highly doubt that he upgraded the radio module too, but it is difficult to tell without looking at the pins on it or the part no. Maybe UCrew knows of another way to check...

BMW started installing the 16:9 screen mid-year in the 2001 production cycle (April 2001, as I recall). The only way to tell is by pulling out the screen unit and seeing if the opening was modified to accomodate the 16:9 screen. If you look at the second and third pictures in this article you can see what the modifications look like
