Aux input

Hi all,

I have an e39 with an mk4 nav computer (with the 16:9 screen).
Reading the forum i came across some posts which state that the unit has an aux input in the back.
Is this true ? and if so what kind of input is it ( audio/video what kind of jack ?).
Any help clearing this up would be appreciated

There is no Aux input on the nav computer, to my knowledge.

search on rear camera

If you search on rear camera I think a couple of the posts mention the connection to the nav system.

Aux video input is a feature of the separate TV/Video module.

Aux audio input is a feature of the "flat pin" new generation radio module.

Both of the above features are totally independent of the nav computer and screen.

Hello,

there IS an AUX input behind the Nav head unit/screen.
if you pull out the stock Nav screen then you will see one cable which covered by some type of tape.
but it's ONLY for audio source.

This is true with the 2003 (or 2002, I can't remember) and newer model year cars. That aux input tie-in leads to the radio module located in the trunk. If a navigation-equipped car does not have this input cable, you can add the capability simply by upgrading the radio module and then wiring the BMW aux input kit at the trunk where the radio is located.

Oke, lots of different answers, not really clearing the point up.
Is there an aux input on the back of the nav screen ?
Or are you guys talking about the unit (radio or nav) that's in the trunk ?
Let's try to clear this up a bit.. not confuse it any further.
Appreciate all the response.

If you are looking for the Aux audio input, that came available some time in the 2002 model year, I think. (I can not remember the exact manufacture date.) Here are the installation instructions for cars that came equipped with the pre-wiring.

http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...stallation.pdf

If you have an earlier car, you can always do the upgrade yourself. You would need to upgrade the radio module, and then the same aux kit will just connect directly to the radio in the trunk.

Thx for clearing this up for me Brian.
I have a 2000 E39, so i would have to do the upgrade myself.
At least now i know a bit more about how to achieve this.
