I get all the same RDS stations fine in my e46 3er...so it must be RDS in the radio.

Yes, that's what I would conclude as well. You can replace the radio, or send your faulty one to the manufacturer for repair (Philips or Becker).

Don't ask BMW: they don't repair the unit, they just replace it.
