7 Character Full Postcode Search

I have an E46 330d with MK4 NAV, I have updated my NAV to v28 and also have 2007-1 maps, but am getting frustrated with the limited 5 character postcode search!

I have heard rumours that there is a way of adding the full 7 character postcode search to the 2007-1 disc?

Does anybody know how to do this!

All help appreciated!

Thanks
David

Thanks for your prompt reply, was that a particular thread you were linking me to or just the site in general?
Cheers

Just the site in general. Both deal with E46 BMW's. Thought that would be a great place to start.

I have found a guy who claims he can supply a disc which has

"a development version of my full 7 char search feature too. Its still being refined but works OK for now."

So it must be possible :-)

No Way! It is absolutely impossible on a 4.7 Gb DVD disk. The UK postcode database to 7 characters would use approx 1.1 Gb of disk space on the DVD. This is quite plainly why the "expert" (?) Dutch programmers at Navteq BV do what they do & give the best that they can, given the physical limitations of a single sided DVD .... You will never see anything better than a 5 digit postcode entry on a European Navteq DVD.

It can be done very easily but you would end up with having to buy a dedicated UK Map disk - & a separate European Mainland disk.

I have seen an oem sat nav in a jaguar do 7 char postcode searches, do they run a different system? also how come it is so big? I also run tomtom on an IPAQ with a bluetooth GPS and that has an update in it for 7 char search, and the whole thing including most europe maps fits on a 1gb SDCard.

Is it not possible to remove all the countries you may never visit and have more data on where you live?

:-)

Your TomTom mapping data is arguably better than Navteq. Unfortunately Navteq put several thousand pictures of hotels, along with all sorts of other details on their disks. This is the German way - they tell you what they "know" you will want rather than ask the customer. - "You vill ave zis vatever you say".... The useless data that Navteq puts onto the DVD takes over 1.5Gb!
