thanks for the quick response Scott, I will visit their website. do you have the latest version of the OS (v28)? or are you using the one that came with the X5 in 02?

You're welcome.
My OS is currently 3-1/63.
I find it interesting that Navteq sells individual map cd's for $129 and the whole set for $199 while offering a standalone (possibly private labeled) GPS at Sam's for $349...

The good news is that the pricing for updates is consistent. Navteq is pretty much the sole supplier for map data globally. MapQuest, Yahoo Maps, Garmin, Google Maps, Alpine, Mercedes Benz, whatever, they all use Navteq data. Navteq charges about $200 for a full region and $130 for a partial region update. Navteq is also smart, so they probably sell the data to manufacturers very inexpensively for new products, because Navteq knows that they will potentially sell upgrades to that consumer down the road.

Thanks for all the info. I have read some additional material and I have a couple of question. I have an MKIII, CD. What is the latest OS upgrade version that I can aim for? Some the information posted here suggests that v.23 is the highest you can get if you have an MKIII. I found this link with different file version http://www.e38.org/nav/ . Now the million dollar question, what files do I need to burn from this list to succesfully update the OS of my 2001 X5?
thank you guys!
