BMW X5 nav system upgrade

Hi All, I have been reading the forum to find out about upgrading the firmware of my Nav unit but, one thing I can't seem to find is what version I should be updating to. I have X5 year 2001 with this monitor 16/9 extrafactory.
thank you
Massimo

You probably have the MKIII navigation computer, and here is how to tell for sure. Go to the main menu. From there, click on the "SET" or "SETTINGS" selection. The version of your nav computer and OS will appear on the upper right corner of the screen. The first digit tells you which version of the nav computer you have, and the last two digits tell you the OS version. If the first digit is a "3," you have a MKIII computer. If you have a MKIII, then the newest OS version is 3-1/63.

When a new OS is loaded it will load the language packs that the vehicle is coded for. Your vehicle must not have been coded for Italian.

Do a search here for "navcoder", that might help with your situation.
