Clock from GPS ???
Can anyone explain why BMW doesn't get the clock setting from the GPS unit ?
ie. Instead of asking you to set the time just ask for your time zone - then the clock would be accurate all the time from GPS satellite information. The s/w obviously knows if there's a GPS module present so it can still use the current method if you dont have the GPS - so why not ? cheers, Scott. |

I was about to start a new thread, but found this old one... Someone let me know if in these case I am supposed to resurrect old thread old just create a new one... Long story short...
I set the X5 to pull the time from the GPS sat, now it is about 6 seconds off from the GPS time beacon. I was playing with the NCS Expert programming when I saw an entry indicating to pull the time from the GPS. I set it to YES, just for laughs and giggles, and then forgot about it, as I had computer issues and other things, called life, happened... lol... Last night I noticed that the little beep-beep-beep for telling when the time is on the hour was a little bit too soon, and I thought to myself, I wonder how accurate the on board clock is... so, I went into the Nav service menu, and looked up the time for the Satellites... the minute portion was the same, the hour was GMT on the Nav and mine was GMT -4 for US east coast... (or is it +4?)... then i changed my time, by a few minutes, instead of 12:22 am real time, I set 12:27 am fake time... In about a minute the on-board clock changed to 12:23 am!!!!!! Voila!!!! GPS time synching is working!!! Once i figure how to upload video, i will do so...
