Help... DVD Nav Drive Freezing

My dvd nav drive has froze/crashed a couple times now. What has happened is that when I start the car, the go to the blank, "please wait" screen I think. Both times it has stayed on that screen for a long time. There's also a return arrow on the bottom, to go back to the last screen. When I do, it goes to he menu, but is frozen. I can't scroll or click on anything else in the menu. Then it goes into some strange basic menu with different font and colors. It looks almost like the screen when you upgrade the nav firmware. On that menu, everything is there except for navigation. It displays the radio station etc, but can't use the nav. Then on both occasions, it randomly restarted and started working fine.

I have done all the firmware upgrades up to v27 I believe. I'm still under warranty so I can take it to the dealer, but I have nav tv installed, as well as a dvd changer in the rack with the nav drive, so I'm worried the might say something about that.

Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? Does it mean the drive is going bad?

Are you using an original navigation disk or DVD-R backup? This seems to happen if the drive can't read the disk correctly. Backup disks usually have weaker burn quality than the original.

I have the very same problem with copy disks. Mine works great with my original, but it locks up frequently with a copy.

I am using a burned back up as well. It's only happened twice so far. I'll put the original in next time it happens to see if that fixes it. Just wanted to ask here and make sure it wasn't my drive going bad.

4,4 2003, mk-4 software -v.28 , I have 2007.1 disk ( dvd with cd data all us states) installed bmwsf and have the same problem
But when I put just burned myself CD ca/ne it works well. How ever this CD data on new DVD disc ( which is bmw original -cd data on dvd 2007.1) is accepted by dvd reader very badly or -99% not at all it's showing wait a minute and thats about it ( all the time).
And when, I put CA/NE, just cd in about 10-15 second it work just exelent.
Any ideas ?!?.........thank you

time after bmw sf investigation :
"recomended new nav control module"
my guess module is part of mk-4 which is disc reading device ,which does not work properly. Any knowlege it could be fixed ? Or I should not fix it , simply because device is reading cd nav Ca/Ne without problem ( preveouse edition let say 2003 veresion) ?
Who deal with this subject closelly?
